Nice Post Andy! I am always in favour of keeping costs as low as possible especially for small businesses. Being able to turn cc receiving on and off as required is a big money saver over a financial year.
The other thing available here in Australia is having cc receiving access via a mobile phone. This is especially handy for trades people. I can't see any reason at all why they should have to finance people's work and believe they should be paid immediately on job completion.

Hi Jan,
Thanks for your comment! Yes, seasonal accounts can truly save merchant's money over the course of the year(s).
Today's technology affords (seasonal) merchants the ability to get paid immediately.

This is a very nice post. Always remember that you never split transactions, always authorize a credit card once for the total amount of the transaction. Never split a transaction into smaller amounts. If you accidentally undercharge a customer's card, cancel the transaction and run another transaction for the entire amount. Hope I add new ideas. Thank you for the post.
Hi Virginia,
Thanks so much for your contribution! Business owners have to be careful about splitting transactions -- particularly if the net sum is over the merchant's high ticket, specified on the application.
In the event that the two split transactions go over this high ticket, the processor will not fund the amounts until they verify the authenticity of the transactions and ensure that the merchant can cover a potential chargeback for the total amount.
Thanks again for writing!

Great idea. I might do this for my surf shop, seeing as we get little business in the winter.
Hi Joe,
It appears that you would very much derive benefit from a seasonal merchant account.
Please ask for our proposal should you opt to open such an account.
