"This service allows you to securely store important customer information in a database for $20 a month. "
20$ per month? What's the value of this?

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words.
Business Marketing, I appreciate your thoughtful question as well! I took the liberty of forwarding your question to an Authorize.net representative. She responded and sent me the following information:
"Authorize.Net's Customer Information Manager (CIM) allows you to store your
customers' sensitive payment information on our secure servers for use in future transactions. CIM helps eliminate steps in the checkout process for repeat customers, potentially increasing loyalty and revenue. It can also help you comply
with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, since customer
information is no longer stored on your local servers.
By providing quick access to stored information, CIM is an ideal tool for companies that:
Process recurring transactions where the date and/or amount is different each month (i.e. utility companies, etc.)
Process usage charges where you only bill when the service is used. (i.e.
pay-as-you-go cell phones, etc.)
Are concerned with PCI compliance
Want to provide returning customers with the convenience of not re-entering personal data."
###
Please note that you do not have to opt to use this service. Most of our customers, for example, just use the standard Authorize.net gateway and virtual terminal.
Again, thanks so much for your question!
Best Regards,
Andy Lax

Actually I didn't realize that [info]. Thanks for the information.
A payment gateway is an e-commerce request or Internet-based means that allows you to conduct business contact online. The gateway mostly gathers all of the [information about the] order sent to you by the customer and then makes sure their card is able to cover the costs. Once this information is complete, the payment gateway ensures the formal funds are deposited into your bank account.
Hi Hina,
Thanks for your contribution. It's amazing that the information about the order and the limits of the customer's card can be processed and checked in one or two seconds.
