It's definitely a great idea to consider all of the different fees. It's expensive to accept credit cards...looking and analyzing each fee for your business needs could end up saving a lot of money over a year.
Thanks for all the details on each individual fee - had no idea there were so many.

Hi Jayson,
Thanks so much for taking the time to read the information.
I suppose it is much better to be acquainted with the entire fee structure before opening a merchant account -- rather than finding out (the hard way) after one has opened a merchant account.
I know businesses owners who discovered rates that there were not initially aware of but could not cancel their accounts because the vendors had a termination fee!
Thanks again for your post!

Hi Jeniffer,
Thanks for your comment.
Many customers and merchants find that it is completely necessary to use/accept credit cards despite any potential drawbacks.
Still, if one is running a business where it does not appear that the acceptance of credit cards is crucial, it would be more cost-effective to just accept cash and checks.
(Of course, customers who are trying to curtail their spending may be wise to forgo the use of credit cards, too.)

Hi Ryan,
Yes, the fee structure for credit card processing can be quite comprehensive (complex).
I'm so glad that you found the post helpful.

The discount rate fee is the percentage charged for each transaction that the processing company (merchant account provider) charges to manage the transactions for you, either swiped, over the internet and mail-order, telephone-order (MOTO).
I believe with all debit transactions, they take get the money debited out of your account within 24 hours. If not, I would contact the bank to make sure it's going through.

Hi and thanks for your contribution. It's so important that merchants become acquainted with the little fees, and the big ones, including the discount percentage.
Re: Debit cards from the customer's point of view: Funds are immediately withdrawn from the bank account. Well, at least the customer's funds are flagged (akin to a credit card authorization) which lowers the customer's total funds as soon as the debit card is used.
Merchants have to wait for any debit card transaction to be batched out and they receive funding at the same time as credit card transactions.

Nice post. Thanks for sharing [about discount merchant accounts].
your posts are truly a great help for affiliate marketers like us.
Thanks so much for the compliment! Yes, the articles should also help those who are looking to join a merchant account affiliate program.
Although one can possibly make more money in the short run as an affiliate from a merchant account company that charges business owners more, it is even more important to align oneself with a company that assesses affordable fees and is honest in their rate disclosure for long term profitability.
