It's better to use debit card. It has the convenience of a credit card but without having a credit.
Hi Jaon,
Thanks for your input. Yes, many customers find using debit cards easier than carrying checks and safer than carrying cash. By using debit cards, individuals are not adding to their credit card debt as well.
Merchants, too, are in favor of the use of debit cards as their rates are typically lower than when customers use credit cards -- especially rewards cards.

I just quit credit cards and things like that in my life... I've had a lot of trouble.
Hi Aumento,
It's easy to encounter problems when using a credit card as many people have a tendency to overextend their credit limits.
Still, credit card use is essential as individuals may need to have a grace period in order to even purchase essentials.
Merchants may often have to rely on credit card processing to accommodate their customers' needs.

You know, after I read your posting, I was a little tempted to change over to debit card.
I think you should post an article about comparing credit card vs debit card as continuation of this article so we can choose the best fit for us.
Thanks a lot.

Hi Jean,
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog entry, offering your suggestion.
In a future entry, I will comment about the advantages and disadvantages in the use of credit cards and debit cards. But remember, my blog primarily addresses the needs of merchants (rather than customers), and business owners may not have a choice as to which types of cards customers use.

Andy

Actually, it is my contention that debit cards and credit cards are both useful -- for both consumers and merchants.
They just have to be used/accepted in a careful manner.

You need to ask your service providers what they are planning to do, and when. They may not have staff available to get this done in a reasonable time, and so you may be waiting an unacceptable time to get there. Know what is preventing early resolution and you may know whether it is worth hanging in with them, because switching can still leave you in the same problem soon.
Thanks for your comment. Any reputable merchant account company should meet their clients' needs, and do so in an expedient manner.
Yes, merchants need to consider a provider's customer and technical support (along with rates) when choosing a credit card processing vendor.

i totally agree with the entry... i have been reading about credit card usage amongst consumers lately... due to the current state of the economy and the rising rates... people tend to use cash more and resort to using debit cards than using credit cards...
Thanks for understanding my point, Lars. Yes, if customers are using more debit cards, merchants must accommodate their clients' use of this preferred plastic.

Two thumbs up. I agree with other commentators above and yours. The debit card is a smarter and more responsible alternative to a credit card. Granted we don't get the "instant gratification" of buying something we can't really afford, we also get to stay out of debt problems.

Hi Glenn,
The use of a debit card reflects a fiscally responsible consumer. Merchants should be able to accept payment from debit card holders -- and save in the process.
